Nick Waring, the slender, studious registrar at the London's Central Hospital, had a brilliant career ahead of him. He was on his way to the top - and Sophie, the girl he loved was by his side. Then, out of the blue, lovely waif-like Louise arrived from Spain - and Nick's life began to disintegrate. Tragic, sick, and seemingly friendless, Louise clung to him like a limpet. She brought Nick nothing but trouble. He lost his job at Central, he lost the flat where he and Sophie had hoped to live - and it began to look as if he would lose Sophie too.
