Harris Henderson is a veterinarian and conservationist whose wife, a troubled, addicted young woman, has left him to bring up their five-year-old daughter alone. When he discovers that the child suffers from juvenile diabetes, he enlists the aid of pediatric nurse Ella Majors to help look after her. But when Harris's wife returns, insisting that she's changed, he finds himself torn between the wife to whom he is duty-bound, and Ella, the woman who has awakened long-forgotten feelings.
