Mary Alice Monroe
Mary Alice Monroe is a New York Times bestselling author of over 27 novels, known for her Lowcountry-set stories that blend women's fiction with environmental themes, particularly conservation of coastal habitats and endangered species like loggerhead sea turtles. Before writing fiction, she worked as an assistant editor at Encyclopedia Britannica, taught, and co-authored a nonfiction guide for immigrants; her debut novel The Long Road Home was written during bed rest in 1995. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, she has sold nearly 8 million books worldwide, earned numerous awards including induction into the South Carolina Academy of Authors’ Hall of Fame, and actively volunteers with turtle conservation teams.
