Book Description The title is excellent-funny, memorable, and appropriate for this novel. The author opens the story in-scene, with Monica's wedding. We meet Amber, our narrator, and her best friend, and then we see Amber meet Preston. Amber and Preston's relationship is the novel's focus, and the author puts their first encounter in the first chapter. The novel is well structured, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. We consistently understand why certain actions are taken and the conflict heightens as Amber and Preston's relationship develops-and is tested. After a broken engagement, Amber Lawson wants to rebuild her life in a new city. Her first outing in Atlanta is the wedding of her oldest and dearest friend, Monica, whereupon she meets Preston McCallister, the best man. As she savors this time of rejuvenation in her life, a romance begins to build between them. Just as she decides to lower her defenses and give love a chance, she meets his family. They make it perfectly clear that she needs to fit in instead of just being herself. Preston is oblivious to his family's impudence. He does not see the horns sprouting from the top of their heads. As long as they treat him okay, it doesn't matter how they treat anyone else. Initially nothing matters but passion-the kind that remains in the midst of contention. But Amber finally decides that self-preservation is worth the risk of losing Preston. The story climaxes when Amber tells Preston to leave her home and effectively ends the relationship after a huge fight breaks out at one of Preston's many too-close-for-comfort family gatherings. Then, the author provides a smooth action, in which we see the couple reunite at a funeral. During the break-up, they both change internally to overcome the obstacles they'd previously encountered. The novel ends with a fabulous wedding.
