"Maybe you should date me." Derek saw the emotions cross her face before she was turning and looking back out the window. . "That is not funny, Derek." He heard the sadness in her tone. Had she gotten over him? Had he waited too long? Well if he had then it was his own fault. . "I wasn't joking, Maize, I don't want you dating anyone else." Derek tried his best to keep his voice calm. He did not want her thinking he was getting all possessive with her. Maize crossed the room to where he stood. She lifted his left hand and turned his ring on his finger. . "Why would I date you? There is no future in it for me." He remembered telling her once that he was not planning on ever getting married again. Things had a way of changing. She was right in her thinking. Especially if she wanted to get married and have a family of her own. . "Thanks for everything, Derek. I am sorry about your date. I need to go home." Derek kept his mouth closed. Maize lifted herself up to place a kiss on the side of his mouth. It was all he could do to not haul her to him and keep her there. That would not be fair and so he did the only thing he could do and let her walk away.
