Kindergarten-Grade 2—On each spread, two sentences face a full-page, full-color photo. Together, they give students a detailed view of the architecture, the type of construction and tools used, the interiors, and how each group of people used the structure they built. The cross sections are clear and the parts are easy to identify. Although the typeface is large and the sentence structure is simple, the vocabulary isn't for very early readers. Glossaries include definitions and pronunciation guides for "challenge" words such as "tundra," "tunnels," "smoke holes," "notches," and "shingles." Librarians may want to add these titles to their collections if the kindergarten through second grade curriculum covers these topics.—Ann Joslin, Fort LeBoef School District, Waterford, PA Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
