Benjamin Franklin is known as a great scientist, inventor, and political leader. But he was also a militia leader, satirical author, and diplomat. He helped found a college and started the first lending library and fire brigade in the colonies. His signature appears on four important documents—the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with France, the Treaty of Paris, and the U.S. Constitution.
