From School Library Journal Grade 1-3 Another excellent addition to this science series that has opened up a host of subjects to young readers. This book tells what tornadoes look like, why they occur, when they occur, and what to do when one strikes. A few incidents of disastrous tornadoes are mentioned, such as the time when a tornado in Minnesota lifted a passenger train from its tracks and carried it 80 feet through the air. The writing is clear, concise, and rhythmic. Maestro's color drawings are also clear and understandable, and fit well with the book's design. This book is for younger audiences than Fradin's Disaster ! Tornados (Childrens, 1982). It should be just the thing for young readers interested in the subject.
