May 1941: the pilots of fifteen canvas-covered biplanes struggle to hold their Swordfish aircraft steady as they head towards the German battleship Bismarck, the most powerful warship in service anywhere in the world. The mighty Bismarck's guns fired a storm of shells and bullets at the planes, but they flew on. Amongst them was sub-lieutenant, John Moffat. The Bismarck was hit and steamed in circles until the ships of the Royal Navy could close in. Only years later was John told that the records suggested it was his torpedo that prevented the Bismarck from outrunning her pursuers.
