Yurij M. Berezansky
Yurij Makarovich Berezansky (1925-2019) was an outstanding Ukrainian mathematician specializing in functional analysis, differential equations, and mathematical physics, best known for his general theory of eigenfunction expansions associated with commuting systems of selfadjoint operators. Born in Kyiv, he graduated from Kyiv University in 1948, earned his PhD in 1951 under Mark Krein at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and remained there throughout his career, becoming a full member of the Academy in 1988. He founded and edited the journal 'Methods of Functional Analysis and Topology,' supervised numerous theses, and authored 13 books and 232 research papers.
