Wm Laird Clowes

Sir William Laird Clowes (1856–1905) was a British journalist and historian best known for his multi-volume work *The Royal Navy: A History from the Earliest Times to 1900*, which remains in print. Born in Hampstead, London, and educated at Aldenham School, he wrote extensively on naval technology, strategy, and racial politics in the Southern United States under the pseudonym Nauticus. He died in Sussex after years of ill-health.[1][2][3]
