William Phipps Blake
William Phipps Blake (1826-1910) was an American geologist, mineralogist, mining expert, and educator who graduated from Yale's Sheffield Scientific School in 1852.[1][2] He served as geologist for the Pacific Railroad Survey (1854-1856), state mineralogist for California (1864), and professor of geology and mining at the University of Arizona (1895-1905).[2] Blake contributed to international expositions, explored Japan and Alaska, and founded the Mining Magazine in 1859.[1][2]
