William of Auverge
William of Auvergne (c. 1180/1190–1249) was a French theologian, philosopher, and Bishop of Paris who became one of the earliest Western scholars to engage seriously with Aristotelian, Islamic, and Jewish philosophy. He sought to reconcile classical philosophy with Christian doctrine while also criticizing ideas he saw as contrary to the faith, especially on creation and the nature of God.
