William Leslie Sumner
William Leslie Sumner (1904-1973) was a British physicist and organist who earned a first-class degree in Physics from the University of London in 1925 and later taught at the University of Southampton and University of Nottingham. He was a founder member of the Nottingham and District Society of Organists and became renowned for his extensive knowledge of Baroque and Romantic organs gained through travels across Europe, which culminated in his authoritative work 'The Organ,' first published in 1952 and revised through four editions until his death.
