William Dougal Christie

William Dougal Christie (1816–1874) was a British diplomat, politician, and man of letters, born in Bombay to physician Dougal Christie.[1][2] He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1838, was called to the bar in 1840, and served as Liberal MP for Weymouth from 1842 to 1847 before pursuing a diplomatic career.[1][2] Known for his ability and writings including a biography of the Earl of Shaftesbury, he died on 27 July 1874 after a serious illness.[1][6]
