William Buchan

William Buchan (1729–1805) was a Scottish physician and writer best known for his influential book *Domestic Medicine: or, a Treatise on the Prevention and Cure of Diseases by Regimen and Simple Medicines*, which sold over 80,000 copies in his lifetime and was translated into numerous European languages.[1] Educated in Edinburgh, he practiced at the foundling hospital in Ackworth, Yorkshire, before moving to London where he had a successful medical career.[3] He died on 25 February 1805 and is buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey.[1]
