William Allan 1869-1946 Neilson

William Allan Neilson (1869–1946) was a Scottish-American educator, writer, and lexicographer who served as president of Smith College from 1917 to 1939[1][2]. He authored critical works on William Shakespeare, Robert Burns, and Elizabethan theatre, and edited the Cambridge and Tudor editions of Shakespeare as well as Webster's New International Dictionary, Second Edition[1][5]. Neilson was born in Doune, Scotland, graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1891, and earned his PhD from Harvard University in 1898[1][2].
