William Shakespeare (c. 23 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English playwright, poet, and actor widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist[1]. Often called England's national poet and the 'Bard of Avon,' he authored at least 37 plays, 154 sonnets, and two narrative poems that capture the range of human emotion and conflict[1][6]. He was baptized on April 26, 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, and died on April 23, 1616, in the same town[2][5].
