Walter 1893-1960 Baade
Walter Baade (1893–1960) was a renowned German astronomer and astrophysicist who made groundbreaking contributions to observational astronomy, including the discovery of stellar populations (Population I and II) and the identification of the Crab Nebula as a supernova remnant. He emigrated to the United States in 1931, working at Mount Wilson and Mount Palomar observatories, where he significantly improved measurements of cosmic distances and galactic evolution. Baade is also credited with coining the term 'supernova' alongside Fritz Zwicky and discovering multiple asteroids, including Hidalgo and Icarus.
