W. Popham

W. James 'Jim' Popham (1930–2025) was an influential American educator, author, and professor emeritus at UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, where he taught for nearly 30 years and earned recognition as one of the university's top 20 professors of the 20th century. A former high school teacher in Oregon, he specialized in educational assessment, test development, and teacher education, founding IOX Assessment Associates in 1968 and authoring over 90 books, 290 journal articles, and more. He served as president of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in 1977–78 and was elected an AERA Fellow in 2008.
