W G Hoskins
William George Hoskins CBE FBA (1908–1992) was an English local historian who founded the first university department of English Local History at the University of Leicester. He pioneered the field of landscape history, most notably through his seminal book The Making of the English Landscape (1955), which demonstrated the impact of human activity on the English countryside. Born in Exeter, he also contributed to conservation efforts, BBC broadcasts, and works on Devon history.[1][2]
