United States Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is the highest court in the federal judiciary, established under Article Three of the U.S. Constitution by the Judiciary Act of 1789.[2][3] It consists of a Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices with lifetime tenure, who preside over cases at the Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C.[2][5] The Court has shaped American law through landmark decisions across eras defined by its Chief Justices, from John Jay (1789–1795) to current Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. (since 2005).[3]
