Townsend Historical Society
The Townsend Historical Society is a non-profit organization founded on November 20, 1896, in Townsend, Massachusetts, to preserve the town's rich history spanning over three centuries. Originating from townspeople's efforts in 1896 to safeguard artifacts, architecture, and memories amid rapid changes, it operates a museum at the c.1790 Reed Homestead, maintains historic properties, hosts events, and publishes newsletters. As a 501(c)(3), it fosters education and research on local history, including the area's Native American roots and development since 1732.
