Tony Mitton
Tony Mitton (1951–2022) was an English children's poet and author, born in Tripoli, Libya, to a British Army family, spending his early childhood in North Africa, Germany, and Hong Kong before moving to England at age nine.[1][2][3] He studied English Literature at Cambridge University, worked as a primary school teacher and special needs support teacher for over 20 years, then became a full-time writer, known for his rhythmic poetry and picture books.[2][3][5] His notable works include *Plum*, *The Red and White Spotted Handkerchief* (Nestlé Smarties Silver Award, 2000), and *The Tale of Tales*, and he frequently performed at schools and festivals.[1][4][6]
