Thomas Reid

Thomas Reid (1710–1796) was a Scottish philosopher and clergyman, best known as the founder of the Scottish Common Sense school of philosophy. He rejected the skeptical empiricism of David Hume by arguing that human faculties like perception, memory, and reasoning provide basic, self-evident beliefs about reality that form the foundation of all knowledge. His major works, including 'An Inquiry Into the Human Mind on the Principles of Common Sense' and 'Essays on the Intellectual Powers of Man,' profoundly influenced epistemology, the philosophy of mind, and theories of free will.
