Thomas Chalmers
Thomas Chalmers (1780-1847) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister, professor of theology, political economist, preacher, philanthropist, and social reformer who led the Disruption of 1843 and became the first Moderator of the Free Church of Scotland.[1][2][5] Born in Anstruther, Fife, he studied at St Andrews University, initially focusing on mathematics and science before his evangelical conversion, and later influenced church independence and welfare reforms.[1][2][5]
