Theodore Dreiser
Theodore Dreiser (1871–1945) was an American novelist and journalist of the naturalist school, born into poverty in Terre Haute, Indiana, as the eleventh child of German immigrant parents. His early journalism career exposed him to urban struggles, influencing works like *Sister Carrie* (1900) and *An American Tragedy* (1925), which unflinchingly portrayed social issues, desire, and the harsh realities of industrial America, challenging Victorian propriety.[1][2][3]
