The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is a conservation organization founded on May 14, 1984, by four hunters from Troy, Montana—Bob Munson, Bill Munson, Dan Bull, and Charlie Decker—to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitats, and American hunting heritage. Starting in a doublewide trailer, the founders—a pastor, realtor, logger, and drive-in owner—pooled their resources despite early financial struggles and near bankruptcy, growing RMEF into a major force that has conserved or enhanced millions of acres. Today, with over 200,000 members, RMEF focuses on habitat conservation, wildlife management, and education.
