The Independent Order of Good Templars

The Independent Order of Good Templars (IOGT) is not an author but a fraternal temperance organization founded in 1851 in Utica, New York, that promoted total abstinence from alcohol and equal membership for men and women. It became the most successful temperance organization of the 19th century, expanding globally with lodges in over 30 countries by 1900[4][6]. The organization later evolved into Movendi International, an international body supporting temperance organizations in 63 countries[1].
