Sylvia Engdahl
Sylvia Louise Engdahl is an American science fiction author best known for her debut novel *Enchantress from the Stars* (1970), which received a Newbery Honor in 1971 and the Phoenix Award in 1990.[1][2][3] Born in Los Angeles, California, she worked in computer programming before focusing on writing, with her novels appealing to both young adults and adults for their intelligence and humanity.[1][2] She lives in Oregon and continues to publish science fiction works, including recent adult novels.[1][3][5]
