Sylvan T Runkel
Sylvan T. Runkel was Iowa's foremost naturalist and conservationist who worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and Soil Conservation Service, educating landowners about erosion control and wildlife habitat.[1] He served as a glider pilot in World War II, suffering severe injuries during the D-Day invasion, and later became known for his work in natural history and environmental education.[1][2]
