Syd Hoff (Author, Illustrator)
Syd Hoff (1912-2004) was an American cartoonist, humorist, illustrator, and children's book author, best known for his classic early reader Danny and the Dinosaur (1958), which sold over 10 million copies, and for contributing 571 cartoons to The New Yorker from 1931 to 1975.[1][2] Born in the Bronx, New York City, he sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker as a teenager and created cartoons for various magazines and syndicates, while authoring and illustrating over 60 books in the HarperCollins 'I Can Read' series, including Sammy the Seal.[1][3] Hoff died of pneumonia at age 91.[1]
