Sun Microsystems, Inc. was an American technology company founded on February 24, 1982, by Scott McNealy, Andy Bechtolsheim, Vinod Khosla, and Bill Joy to develop and sell high-performance UNIX-based workstations, servers, software, and services.[1][2][5] It pioneered key technologies including Java, SPARC processors, and Solaris OS, becoming a major player in network computing and the internet era.[3][4] Acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2010, Sun ceased independent operations after nearly three decades.[1][2][5]
