Sophocles

Sophocles was an ancient Greek tragedian, born around 496 BCE in Colonus near Athens, and is celebrated as one of the three great playwrights of Classical Athens alongside Aeschylus and Euripides. He wrote over 120 plays, including the renowned tragedies 'Oedipus Rex' and 'Antigone', and is credited with introducing the third actor and expanding the chorus in Greek drama. Sophocles died in 406 BCE at the age of 90, leaving a legacy that profoundly influenced the development of Western theater.
