Sophia Al-Maria

Sophia Al-Maria is a Qatari-American artist, writer, and filmmaker born in 1983 who grew up between Seattle and Qatar. She is known for coining the term 'Gulf Futurism' in the early 2010s and for her interdisciplinary work spanning video art, memoir, collage, and screenwriting that explores themes of storytelling, imperialism, consumerism, and counter-histories.
