Sir Richard Francis Burton
Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821–1890) was a British explorer, scholar, soldier, diplomat, and prolific translator best known for his daring travels across Africa and Asia. He gained fame for disguising himself to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, exploring East Africa with John Hanning Speke, and translating works such as The Arabian Nights and the Kama Sutra.
