Simon J. Ortiz

Simon J. Ortiz (born May 27, 1941) is a prominent Native American writer, poet, and enrolled member of the Pueblo of Acoma, recognized as a key figure in the second wave of the Native American Renaissance[1][2]. His work spans poetry, short fiction, and non-fiction, often addressing themes of colonialism, environmental issues, and the reconnection of humanity with ancestral wisdom and Mother Earth[2][4]. Ortiz is an Emeritus Regents Professor of English and American Indian Studies at Arizona State University, where he founded the Indigenous Speakers Series[2][3].
