Sigurd F. Olson
Sigurd F. Olson (1899–1982) was one of the most influential conservationists and nature writers of the 20th century, recognized for his deep appreciation of wilderness and tireless efforts to protect it.[1][2] Born in Chicago and raised in Ashland, Wisconsin, he spent most of his adult life in Ely, Minnesota, where he led pivotal campaigns to preserve the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and establish Voyageurs National Park, while also playing a key role in drafting the Wilderness Act of 1964.[1][2][3]
