Sidney Wilfred Mintz was an American anthropologist best known for pioneering the anthropology of food and for influential studies of the Caribbean, creolization, slavery, and global capitalism. His landmark book, Sweetness and Power: The Place of Sugar in Modern History, examined how sugar production and consumption were tied to empire, labor, and capitalism.
