Carol Ann Shields was an American-born Canadian novelist and short story writer best known for her 1993 novel "The Stone Diaries," which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and Canada’s Governor General's Award. She moved to Canada in 1957 after her marriage and published more than twenty books across fiction, poetry, essays, criticism, and biography.
