Sandy Eisenberg Sasso
Sandy Eisenberg Sasso, born January 29, 1947, was the first woman ordained as a rabbi in Reconstructionist Judaism by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1974.[1][3] She served as senior rabbi of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck in Indianapolis from 1977 to 2013 alongside her husband Rabbi Dennis Sasso, forming the first practicing rabbinical couple in Jewish history, and is now Rabbi Emerita and director of the Religion, Spirituality, and the Arts Initiative.[2][3][5] She is an acclaimed author of over 24 children's books on religious topics, as well as adult books like 'Midrash: Reading the Bible with Question Marks.'[1][7]
