Ruth Finnegan

Ruth Hilary Finnegan OBE FBA is a Northern Irish linguistic anthropologist, cultural historian, and Emeritus Professor of the Open University, born on 30 December 1933 in Derry, Northern Ireland[2][1]. She holds degrees in Classics and Anthropology from Oxford and has conducted field research and taught in Africa, Fiji, the USA, and England, with academic work focusing on literary issues, music, and communication modes[2][3]. Finnegan is also a multi-award novelist and screenwriter, known for works such as 'Black Inked Pearl', influenced by Homer and Irish and African storytelling traditions[3][9].
