Russell T. McCutcheon

Russell T. McCutcheon (born 1961) is a Canadian scholar in religious studies, earning his PhD from the University of Toronto in 1995 after training at Queen's University. He joined the University of Alabama's Department of Religious Studies in 2001 as Chair (2001-2009 and 2013-2023), where he became University Research Professor and was appointed Distinguished Research Professor in 2018. His work focuses on the history of the study of religion and the politics of classification systems.
