Robert L. Payton

Robert Louis Payton (1926-2011) was a multifaceted leader known for his roles as a jazz musician, journalist, university president at C.W. Post College and Hofstra University, U.S. ambassador to Cameroon, and pioneering figure in philanthropy studies. He served as the first full-time director and professor of Philanthropic Studies at Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy, where he established it as an academic field, and previously led the Exxon Education Foundation.[1][2][5]
