Born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, he traveled the American West around 1908, inspiring his writing career that began in 1917 with sales to Munsey Publications. His novels, later reprinted by Five Star, emphasized character development over plot in themes of cattle rustling, rancher-miner conflicts, and romance; he died in 1934 after personal tragedies including the loss of his wife and family.
