Robert Hermann

Robert C. Hermann (1931–2020) was an American mathematician and mathematical physicist known for his work on elementary particle physics, quantum field theory, differential geometry, and Lie group theory. In the 1960s, he published books revealing interconnections between vector bundles on Riemannian manifolds and gauge theory in physics, influencing later developments. Following the French school of Élie Cartan, he authored numerous books on these subjects and their applications to differential equations, integrable systems, control theory, and physics.
