Rob Manning
Robert Joseph Manning (1919–2012) was an acclaimed American journalist and editor who served as the 10th editor-in-chief of The Atlantic from 1966 to 1980, during which its circulation significantly grew.[1][2][3] He began his career at local newspapers and the Associated Press, later working for Time magazine as London Bureau Chief (1958–1961), Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, and Sunday editor of The New York Herald Tribune before joining The Atlantic.[1][2][3] After leaving the magazine, he co-owned Boston Publishing Co. and oversaw the 'Vietnam Experience' series, and published his autobiography The Swamp Root Chronicle in 1992.[1][2]
