Richard W Bulliet

Richard W. Bulliet (born October 30, 1940) is a professor emeritus of Middle Eastern history at Columbia University who specializes in the history of Islamic society and institutions, the history of technology, and the history of the role of animals in human society[1][2]. He is an innovative historian of the Islamic world whose fifty-year career at Harvard, Berkeley, and Columbia coincided with the rise of Middle East Studies as an American academic enterprise[6]. Bulliet has also authored and edited numerous books, including the 'Encyclopedia of the Modern Middle East,' and wrote the memoir 'Methodists and Muslims'[2][6].
