Richard North Patterson is an American fiction writer, attorney, and political commentator, best known as a New York Times bestselling author of over 20 novels, including the Edgar Allan Poe Award-winning debut The Lasko Tangent (1979).[1][2][5] Formerly a trial lawyer who served as SEC liaison to the Watergate special prosecutor and held positions in various law firms until retiring in 1993, he has also been a columnist on American politics and advocate for issues like gun violence and reproductive rights.[1][2][7] He lives on Martha’s Vineyard and in other locations with his wife, Dr. Nancy Clair.[1][6][7]
