Richard Barringer
Richard Edward 'Dick' Barringer was an American public servant, educator, and author born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, who earned a Ph.D. in Economics and Political Science from MIT and taught at Harvard and the Kennedy School of Government.[1][4] He authored books including 'A Maine Manifest' (1972) and 'Changes,' served as Director of Public Lands and Commissioner of Conservation in Maine, founding director of the Muskie School of Public Service, and cabinet member for three Maine governors, championing environmental conservation like the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.[1][2][4] He died on October 20, 2025, after a career spanning over 60 years in public service.[2][4][5]
